In my ongoing quest to find a moderate (read: reasonable and not over the top) conservative blog, Little Green Footballs is surprising me. Good reading.

This morning I heard the results of an election I was following: NY-23 went to Bill Owens.
Just to be clear, NY-23 is a district that is on the Canadian border and except for it being a special election it was no big deal. What made it a big deal is that when a moderate was selected to be the Republican candidate, prominent national Republican groups went ape. So the other Republican candidate ran on the conservative ticket and trashed Dede Scozzafava. And of course these prominent national figures played the “Purge the Party! Get rid of all the RINOs!” song.
Toss in President Obama’s name and you get people around the country weighing in just for the press (yes I do mean that Alaskan Quitter and professional public speaker).
So now Bill Owens is going to represent NY-23. The Republicans will keep going after their loyalty oath and any moderates in the national spotlight will have to change their spots or lose any hope of getting re-elected. Any chance of these geniuses getting it is out the window.
This is not a gun totting white-christian only country. Most people I know are moderates. It’s just that the radicals on both side of the aisle get most of the press. I don’t want a radical government from either side, I want one that will actually solve problems without violating the law or sacrifice the constitution for security. This name calling and purging of people in the middle is just plain stupid.
Over at BoingBoing is a good video of Senator Al Franken handling unhappy people with calm reasonable discussion. Good job Senator Al.
What a pair. NY is lucky to have such characters in the state senate. Monserrate is headed to trial and Espada has his own problems. If either or both of these self serving senators have to resign then there will be no stale mate for Albany anymore.
The best part of Frank Rich’s article is that his examples are dead on. Michael Steele’s words are just pure comedy gold.
The hearings were pure “Alice in Wonderland.” Reality was turned upside down. Southern senators who relate every question to race, ethnicity and gender just assumed that their unreconstructed obsessions are America’s and that the country would find them riveting.

Would there be an outcry if she said “a wise experienced insert ethnic background here would be better than a robot”?
The idea of someone actually taking pride in her background (note: I’m also Puerto Rican) and using that background as a strength, why would that be a negative? She was obviously attempting to inspire and I think she succeeded. If that’s the most controversial statement that the opposition is focusing on, then they should have had the hearings in one day.
Judge Sotomayor will make a fine addition to the Supreme Court. The confirmation hearings turned into a farce many years ago.
This pretty much sums up Governor Palin:
“She has an incredibly thin résumé, a serious lack of gravitas, no coherent philosophy and the people around her are amateurs,” another top Republican pol argued. “She’s finished.”
via Alaska’s governor Sarah Palin to resign, dooming her presidential pipe dream.
That’s not to say she wont make the rounds and push for other candidates. But she is now moving into Joe the Plumber territory.
Sarah Palin to resign as Governor of Alaska. Why would she do this? As governor she obtained real experience and she has made it clear she’s looking for a national office.
When she runs for the Republican nod in 2012, does anyone think that her bailing before any tangible recovery happens in the economy will insulate her and make her more attractive as a presidential candidate? Like it or not, she leads Alaska as governor. Why put down that responsibility now?
The protestors in Iran do not want to go away. I’m am hoping that this does not end the same way Tianamen did; that government is not famous for their patience.
I don’t really blame the North Koreans for acting insane. That behaviour has always worked for them in the past. When will China and Russia say enough is enough and let real sanctions start?
President Obama took his wife on a date Saturday and some people are going nuts. The RNC I can understand since they are the “ZOMG we lost, now what?!” party. But regular folks who are in arms about this need to get a life.
