It’s here and it’s “Thelonious”.
Now unless you are capable of
- Backing up your WordPress blog completely
- Performing the manual upgrade by hand
- Capable of restoring your file and database backup 100% yourself in case something goes seriously wrong
then consider waiting before adopting WordPress 3.0 on your blog.
The 3.0 release is BIG and things will fail on some setups. At this moment, there is no reason to rush into this release.
At some point soon, yes do upgrade. Keeping current is valuable and makes your blog easier to obtain support. But for now consider waiting.

Thanks for the heads up. I was about to upgrade, but after reading your post, I think I’ll attack it when I have more time available.

I’ve had no problems, but I keep nightly backups of everything. And when the “Bad Thing” happens, I know (and have) how to restore it all to the night before.
Unless 2.9.2 has some critical vulnerability, then at some point you should upgrade. But waiting for 3.0.1 to shake out is not a bad idea.

Ulf Karlsson says:
Hi,
I upgraded manually, and the upgrade went realtively smooth.
However I have a lot of problems with plug-ins. For example I can not use Google sitemaps anymore, so I aggree on your advice to wait, that is what I will do with my other sites.

Ulf,
It’ll get sorted out, those plug-ins.
I think that as long as you can do a restore of your full backup, then no upgrade can go wrong. The safety net is too good.
